Orders in China were more active this week after a quiet period, with contracts including large ferries from Europe plus LPG carriers, a bulk carrier and ultra large ethane carriers. South Korea won tanker orders. Moves towards protecting the climate continued to generate new orders this week for vessels with low pollution emissions. A large LNG-fuelled pure car and truck carrier was reported in Japan. Contracts for environmentally friendly workboats and tugs were reported in Belgium and France. A major warship order was placed in Finland and new developments came in the U.S. Navy’s project to order frigates using foreign designs.
