The relatively quiet summer period for merchant shipbuilding orders continued this week in both China and South Korea. Korean won some LPG and product carrier orders. A big order for an offshore windfarm installation vessel was placed in Japan. An increasingly rare coastal freighter order was placed in a European yard, in the Netherlands. The naval sector remained busy, with China’s expansion into warship exports underlined with reports of a looming submarine export deal. Other big projects were reported in France and the Philippines for coastal patrol vessels.
