Environmental protection by expanding natural gas both for land-based and ship propulsion use was again the theme for large orders this week. Increasing use of gas for land-based power generated was behind gas tanker orders in Korea while Korea is also in talks about more very large gas carriers in turn powered by LPG. Turkey is building an LNG-powered freighter for operation off Norway. Meanwhile in other sectors, Chinese yards won orders for two cruise ships, tankers and bulk carriers. After months of talks, France and Italy also agreed strategic cooperation in naval shipbuilding despite political tension between the two countries.
