South Korean yards continued their high order intake in the past week with deals including container ships, car carriers and gas carriers. Chinese orders included gas carriers in separate deals along with orders for bulk carriers. On the U.S. market, national and naval contracts play a major role with the utilisation of shipyards. A German customer was behind dry cargo freighters ordered from a European yard. Giant South Korean yard Hyundai Heavy Industries revealed more details about its plans for expansion after the European Union blocked its takeover of Daewoo Shipbuilding.
