The first cruise ship order since the COVID-19 pandemic was placed in Europe this week. Huge deals were reported again this week in the key shipbuilders China and South Korea. Chinese orders included initial deals for container ships worth US$3.2 billion. Gas carriers and bulkers were also ordered in China. South Korean yards continued their remarkably successful start to 2021 with over US$3 billion of container ship contracts for different customers. The naval sector saw a multi-billion naval vessel ordered in America. New projects worldwide continued to be dominated by efforts to develop more environmentally friendly vessels with a zero-emission freighter to be contracted in Europe.
