Environmental protection and increased use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) continued to be a shipbuilding theme this week. An LNG bunkering barge is planned in the Netherlands and such a bunkering barge was also ordered in China. China also won an order for tankers and bulk carriers ready to use LNG as fuel. Plans are being made in China to build the world’s largest container ships fuelled by LNG. South Korea won major orders for LNG carriers. In the naval sector, a large landing ship contract was awarded in Korea while France placed an order for patrol vessels for its overseas territories.
