A valuable and unusual order was reported this week for German yard to build an icebreaker for operation by a Russian state-owned company. One of the largest single naval shipbuilding orders in history was placed in the United States. Chinese yards won orders for some of the world’s biggest container ships while a major VLCC order was also confirmed. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) continued to be a theme for the propulsion of new orders, while a new LNG bunkering vessel was contracted for France. South Korean yards also won orders including tankers and an LNG carrier. European yards continued their steady stream of contracts for smaller vessels including port ferries, tugs and rescue craft.
