EDITORIAL NO 047 | 2019

It was a good week for European yards, with a major deal for cruise ships reported in Italy, naval patrol vessels ordered in France and a frigate contract confirmed in Britain. Environmental protection continued to be a theme for new vessels ordered, with China winning contracts for new types of low-pollution coastal freighters and also for tankers. The trend towards liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel is also set to spark a big order for bunker vessels in China following an order for an LNG bunker ship in South Korea this week. An LNG-powered ferry is also planned in Japan.
