A good mix of contracts was won by yards in Asia this week, although overall order volumes in China and South Korea were under the high levels seen earlier this year. Korean deals included a US$628 million order for container ship believed to be for a European customer. European owners are also said to be in talks about gas carrier orders in Korea. China’s deals included container ships, offshore installation vessels and dry cargo freighters. Moves to improve environmental protection were again a major theme in several projects, including yards to be sought for carbon dioxide transport.
