A major cruise ship order was announced in Germany this week, ending a relatively quiet period for large passenger vessel contracts. The cruise ships will have liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion, which was again the case with other vessels ordered this week including product tankers in China. A large order for environmentally friendly ferries was won in the Netherlands. The British government is halting a controversial tender to build naval supply vessels which had been opened to foreign yards. Chinese yards had an active week with bulk carriers and tankers among orders. Japanese yards also won bulk carrier orders. Large orders for naval patrol vessels were placed in South Korea while Germany also revealed a frigate order.
