Multi-billion dollar orders were placed this week in both the merchant and naval shipbuilding sectors. China won a US$2.86 billion contract for very large container ships with green power along with a major order for LNG carriers. A US$1 billion container ship deal was signed in the United States. A Japanese yard won an order for coal carriers with LNG propulsion. A European yard confirmed a large ferry contract. Yards in Turkey continued their impressive recent success, with a large RoPax ferry order expected along with deals including offshore support vessels, a tug and superyacht. In the naval sector, a U.S. yard won an order worth up to US$3.2 billion for an assault ship/light aircraft carrier.
