South Korean yards had a remarkable week with multi-billion dollar orders won. A US$1.14 billion contract from Europe for methanol-powered container ships was signed along with a US$1.3 billion gas carrier deal for Asian and European customers. Singapore won a US$3.05 billion offshore shipbuilding contract from Brazil following a US$2.8 billion contract from Brazil last week. Chinese orders included car carriers, tankers and ferries. In the naval sector, a European country is to ask three yard groups to bid to build submarines.
