A good flow of orders was seen this week with high ocean shipping prices and the need for more environment-friendly vessels again generating new business. Qatar went to China for US$765 million worth of gas carriers. China also won an order from Europe for green car carriers. High prices achieved for container shipping and bulk shipping also help China win orders in these segments. South Korean yards also won orders for boxships and a contract worth about US$808 million to build LNG carriers for an Asia-based customer. A series of smaller vessels ordered in Europe and elsewhere also featured low-pollution propulsion.
