EDITORIAL NO 039 | 2022

Yards in China again had a busy week. Chinese orders included tankers with green designs for Scandinavia, gas carriers for several countries, bulk carriers and a new type of bunker vessel for ammonia. An Asian yard won a multi-billion dollar offshore order from South America. A European tender to build large ferries gained interest. In the naval sector, a South American country is to build frigates in cooperation with a European yard. An initial deal was agreed for the sale of Daewoo Shipbuilding to a buyer not involved in ship construction after the South Korean Government gave up seeking a sale to another yard because of competition concerns.
