Booming world container shipping continues to generate new orders. Another huge container ship order is expected in China while Chinese yards also won contracts for feeder boxships. Other Chinese orders include bulk carriers and a hybrid bunker tanker. South Korea also won boxship orders from Europe while India bagged a deal from Scandinavia for hybrid coastal freighters. A new type of eco-friendly car carrier was contracted in Japan. A German yard won a welcome order for a RoRo freighter worth more than 100 million euros. The diplomatic storm between France the U.S., Britain and Australia about Australia’s cancelled submarine order continued this week. Australia also gave the first indications that it will consider both U.S. and British-built nuclear submarines to replace the cancelled conventional powered vessels from France. The naval sector was otherwise active, with a European competition for frigate newbuildings going forward. A European country also signed a deal for an Asian state to build frigates under licence.
