The quiet summer period for shipbuilding orders was visible this week, with some exceptions. Chinese yards had another good week, with a range of vessel types ordered. China won a major order for car carriers from Europe. A South Korean shipping company ordered heavy lift freighters in China, while a U.S. customer contracted more container ships and a Chinese customer took stainless steel chemical tankers. In the naval sector, an EUR 1.2 billion order with a European yard was cancelled, leading to speculation that the order could be placed elsewhere. Global shipbuilding orders rose in July, with South Korea taking the top spot as shipbuilding prices continued to rise.
