A billion-dollar order for methanol-powered container ships is expected to be won by China, continuing the boom in contracts for boxships with reduced pollution. Chinese yards had a successful week, with contracts including container feeder ships, tankers and bulk carriers while talks are also underway in China about a large car carrier order. South Korea won contracts for tankers from Europe. South Korean yards reported an order boom so far in 2022 but yard earnings are poor after metal and other shipbuilding supply costs increased.
