Chinese shipyards had a strong week in new orders, including car carriers for a European customer and supertankers for Europe, both with environmentally friendly design features. China also received orders for container ships and bulk carriers. South Korea received a major order for carbon dioxide carriers, while Japan received a major order for a very large dual-fuel gas/ammonium tanker. In the naval sector, a European shipyard received an unusual order from a South American country, while India confirmed that it plans to order more European submarines. In the U.S., a major design contract was awarded for the construction of naval hospital ships.
