South Korea and Japan shared a USD 5.04 billion order for container ships from Asia this week, again choosing methanol for dual-fuel propulsion to reduce pollution. South Korea and China received separate orders from Europe for gas tankers. In Europe, more details emerged about the plan for a carbon-neutral new build of cruise ships. The naval sector was very active this week, with a European Navy ordering ships for signals intelligence expected to be worth over EUR 2 billion. The US Government awarded a contract worth USD 624.6 million for the construction of two new advanced marine research vessels. A new submarine contract involving a European partner is expected to be announced in Asia.
