More container ship orders were reported this week as the recovery in the world economy continues to strengthen demand for container shipping. Chinese yards won orders for both larger container vessels of 7,000 TEU and smaller feeder ships. South Korean orders included boxships for European customers. Moves to achieve cleaner shipping again generated orders. Tankers with ammonia-backed propulsion were won by Korea along with a large gas carrier deal while a freighter powered by fuel cells is also under development. A report said world shipbuilding prices are rising with the order intake strongly up in the first half of this year.
