South Korean shipyards had a remarkably successful week after a quiet period, receiving orders worth over USD 3 billion in the last few days. South Korean orders included an offshore production facility, gas and car carriers and tankers. Chinese shipyards continued their upswing in newbuilding orders; new orders included gas tankers, container ships and bulk carriers. The naval sector was active. Frigates were ordered in Europe and an EUR 95 million European project to develop semi-autonomous naval vessels was announced. Three shipyards are also competing for a naval contract worth USD 632 million in Asia.
