In Europe, an initial deal for gas-powered cruise ships was announced, bringing hope the cruise sector may be recovering from the pandemic. US$2.2 billion worth of orders for gas carriers were placed in South Korea. A South Korean yard also said it has used its rights to cancel a newbuilding order made at previously low prices and replace it with a new higher-priced contract reflecting increased costs for shipbuilding supplies. Chinese yards had a good week with a series of orders including for container ships and gas carriers. The naval sector saw a US$3.3 billion contract awarded in the United States.
