EDITORIAL NO 026 | 2023

The week saw major orders for container ships that focused on environmentally friendly propulsion systems. China received orders from Europe for six 9,000 TEU container vessels that can run on green methanol and is in talks with another customer to build twelve 24,000 TEU dual-fuel container ships. South Korea and Japan are to share a container order worth USD 4 billion. Overall, Chinese shipyards continued to report numerous new orders, and in addition to container ships, they also received orders for bulk carriers, dry cargo vessels, tankers and inland waterway vessels. According to a new report, orders for Chinese newbuildings increased by 49.5% year-on-year in the first five months of 2023.
