Chinese yards had a busy week with orders including feeder container ships, bulk carriers and tankers. Alternative fuels for ships were again a dominant theme this week. A Japanese consortium announced the start of a joint project aimed at developing and building an ocean-going liquefied gas carrier which will use ammonia as its main fuel. A project to design one of the world’s first wind-powered RoRo vessels moved forward. In the naval sector, a US$563.9 million naval vessel construction contract was announced in Europe. In an unusual move, a European government is to buy an insolvent shipyard for use by its navy.
