Moves for more environmentally friendly shipping continued to stimulate newbuilding orders this week, with a new type of methanol-powered container ship contracted. Chinese yards won a series of valuable contracts this week, especially for very large container vessels. Chinese orders also included other container ships, gas carriers, car carriers, bulk carriers and a large deal for offshore installation vessels. South Korea won orders including container ships, ferries, gas carriers, product carriers and tankers. A multi-billion dollar project in the Middle East for LNG tanker newbuildings moved forward. The naval sector included European orders for submarines and intelligence gathering ships.
