Overall, it was a quiet week for orders in the main Asian shipbuilding countries, with uncertainty about global economic growth, high prices caused by expensive commodities and a lack of newbuilding slots after the recent order surge burdening the market. But gas carriers were again the exception, with South Korean yards winning orders worth over US$900 million. The naval sector saw a South American contract worth US$150 million placed in Asia. A German cruise ship construction yard was bought for future naval vessel building.
