A week with public holidays in a series of Asian countries including China and South Korea reduced newbuilding activity. But China still reported container ship orders while South Korea won a US$1 billion offshore project. Japan clinched deals for car carriers with LNG propulsion and chemical carriers with dual fuel. The move towards more environmentally friendly propulsion methods also continued to generate orders for a wide range of smaller vessels worldwide. The naval sector was busy, with a 4 billion euro contract placed in Europe while new naval projects were reported in the United States and Australia.
