Chinese yards had another successful week, with shipbuilding business including large gas carriers, tankers, ferries and bulk carriers. A European customer is in talks with yards in South Korea and China about building 24,000 TEU container ships with environmentally friendly propulsion. Japanese yards won orders for chemical tankers and a bulk carrier. In the naval sector, a US$ 390 million contract is expected in Asia. One of the most famous names in world ship construction, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, is set to be renamed after its takeover was approved.
