South Korea continued its recent order success this week with a US$656 million container vessel deal for Asia. More details emerged of a US$20 billion container ship newbuilding plan with contracts set to be divided between yards in Korea and Japan. Japan also won a separate boxship deal. Chinese orders included the tanker and bulk carrier sectors while a large container vessel deal is expected. Welcome signs came again that at least part of the cruise sector is recovering from the corona pandemic, with new inland waterways passenger ships are to be built for operation on European rivers. A multi-billion euro naval deal was finally awarded in Europe after a long contest against U.S. yards. More minehunters are also to be ordered by a European navy.
