Major orders for gas carriers came again this week, and more deals are in the pipeline as the war in Ukraine continues to alter global flows of gas imports.
South Korea won a US$ 765 million order for LNG carriers and a US$ 180 million chemical carrier contract. Yards in Korea and China were this week also negotiating a potential US$ 600 million gas carrier construction order. Japanese yards had an unusually successful week, winning orders in the gas carrier and bulk sectors. In the naval sector, an Asian yard won a US$ 408.3 million contract from the Middle East. In India, new anti-pollution regulations restricting ages of merchant vessels could generate more newbuilding orders.
