EDITORIAL NO 008 | 2021

Newbuilding activity picked up this week as the Lunar New Year holiday period in Asia ended. South Korean yards are continuing their remarkable success, with hundreds of millions of dollars in orders from Asia, Europe, Africa reported this week. Orders won included RoRo freighters, VLCC oil tankers, gas carriers, chemical carriers and container ships. The first two months of 2021 have been so successful for Korean yards that they have achieved a large part of their order targets for the whole of this year. Chinese business included container ships and bulk carriers. The naval sector was active, with major deals in India, Canada and the United States. But a famous European yard faces closure.
