It was a week with individual orders worth billions of dollars placed in South Korea and China. A South Korean yard won a giant USD 3.44 billion contract for gas carriers this week, continuing demand from the Middle East. A Chinese shipyard has received orders for oil tankers worth USD 1.8 billion from two European customers. Also in China, a German shipowner ordered ten chemical tankers, while a European customer contracted freight ferries with methanol-ready propulsion, and chemical tankers were won for a Norwegian-Japanese joint venture. China also won an order from Italy for fuel-efficient freighters. Other Korean orders included shuttle tankers and carbon dioxide carriers.
