Chinese yards had a successful week despite a long public holiday. The lunar new year holiday period in China and South Korea meant many shipyard executives were absent for part of the week. Chinese orders included tankers for Denmark and bulk carriers for Chinese customers. Plans for new gas carrier newbuildings to be ordered in foreign yards were announced in Russia. In the naval sector, Italy is expecting more orders from Qatar and agreed to strengthen cooperation ahead of possible new contracts. India named the foreign yards which would cooperate with Indian shipbuilders in its US$7 billion submarine newbuilding project.
