Europe won big orders for cruise ships this week, with the biggest deal reported in France and another large contract in Portugal. The French project also involves further cooperation between shipyard and owner to investigate sail-powered cruise vessels. The Portuguese order was for Arctic cruise ships. China won orders for vessels including unusual combined bulk carrier/container ships, heavy-lift vessels with LNG propulsion and tankers. There was a brisk order intake in South Korea, ranging from VLCC tankers, product carriers, and tankers. A new yard in Saudi Arabia won an order for drilling rigs. The changes in Europe’s shipbuilding sector continued with a Croatian group to buy a leading Norwegian shipyard.
