The gas carrier order boom continued this week with contracts totalling over US$1.2 billion placed in South Korea. One of the Korean orders for LNG carriers was thought to be for a European customer. Chinese yards won major contracts for car carriers with one deal from Italy worth up to US$630 million. Chinese orders also included an expedition cruise ship and bulk carriers. European yards had a successful start to the year as well. European contracts included a sail-assisted cruise ship for a hotel group, a RoRo ferry, multi-purpose freighters and coastal tankers.
